Working with trauma requires knowledge, skill and courage. From trauma-informed to trauma-skilled: this basic course is a must for every social worker.

 

Contents: Must-Have Knowledge of Trauma

Part 1: What is trauma, definitions and symptoms. Neurobiology of trauma. Friend, Face, Fight, Flight, Freeze, Flop, Faint, Fawn, Follow, Fragment. Time course of trauma. Types of trauma.

Part 2: The big difference between PTSD and C-PTSD. Attachment: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The three big factors: Sense of Belonging, Sense of Self and WoT. Comorbidity and differences with stress, grief and exhaustion.

Part 3: Starting trauma counseling. Frameworks, guidelines, "common threads" and points of interest. Anamnesis and psychoeducation. From demand to mandate: from overwhelming and avoidance to voluntary confrontation. 

Part 4: Best Practice initial interventions. The '3-fold question', affect containment and exploration, '4-fields' technique, EGB diagram, inviting the inner child.

Once you have completed this basic training, you will be ready for the Trauma Skills Training 🙂 .
